Sentosa Beach

Sentosa Beach, the perfect place for Retreat, the Restless and the Romantic

27 July 2009 One Comment

When I was a young boy, I always pestered my parent to bring me to the Sentosa beach. The fine white sands and the open seas always intrigue me. Now, it’s my turn to be pestered by my two little devils. Perhaps it is in our blood, a family’s gene that is running so intriguingly to the beaches around us.

The excitement my children felt was euphoric (reminded me when I was young) when they realized that Sentosa island has three beautiful beaches: Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach and Tanjong Beach.

Sentosa beach is different from those famous beaches around the world. They have their own character and charm. If you are looking for great waves to surf with your surf board and blue water to trap, you will be disappointed.

Party Beach for the Young and the Restless…

Sentosa Siloso Beach

Instead Sentosa beach of this tropical island offer you a different kind enjoyment. Rather, I term it more of a theme beach. In Siloso beach, you will find beach goers doing activities like canoeing, sea boarding, rollerblading and mountain biking. In fact, Siloso beach is fame for the beach volleyball that is getting very popular with the world beach goers.

Hmm…the thought of those bikinis girls at the Siloso beach smacking the ball can be very alluring.

I tend to see the beach as more for the young and the restless, where they can party and have lots of fun. With the live band that perform there and the many dining and shopping outlets along the beach, people can get spoilt by the many establishments.

The region popular yearly Zoukout foam party is held at Siloso beach. I was told…the event can attract 15000 people attending from across the region! A mega beach event held in December, you might not want to miss… just remember to jot it down in your diary.

Everyone Can Be a Formula 1 Race Driver…

Around the vicinity of the Siloso beach, I tried the Sentosa Luge & Skyride. It is a self steering gravity driven “vehicle” that powered it way down hill over a track of about 700m .This fun filled activities really made my day. It is safe for all ages and my children really glued to the driver seats. It exhilarating! Go try it…

Another activity we tried was the Flying Trapeze. Well…it is really not that fantastic but it helps to explore the children coordination and the fear for height.

Family Beach, Standing Nearest to the Equator…

Suspension Bridge at Palawan Beach
Hey Dr Jones, where
are you?(Palawan
Suspension Bridge)
In the Palawan Beach, you experiment another high. The beach lies in the southern stretch of Sentosa beach. Once there, your eyes will immediately track to a suspension bridge that can lead you to a small islet, which is the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia (you will be standing at a point nearest to the equator).

I feel that Palawan Beach is more suitable for family. Bring the children to walk across the Indiana Jones likes bridge if you have watched the latest series of the Indiana Jones movie spanning many generation. Hmm…Harrison Ford would, who knows appear before you, fighting those thieves. You can also bring your kids to the enlightening Animals and Bird Encounters. I sure did! And I am very sure your kids will enjoy it…

The Palawan beach offers a more fun and relax environment (perhaps it is due to the beach offer less accommodation and eatery but certainly not less activities)

Up Close and Personal with Dolphin…

But the ultimate place to visit near the Palawan beach will be the Dolphin lagoon. We took a Palawan beach tram and it took us all the way to the doorstep. We were there 30 min earlier, as we were told it can be very crowded. Anyway I wanted my children to have a good seat and to have a great view with the dolphins.

Synchronized Jumps by
the Pink Dolphins

The show was fantastic! The children were fascinated by the many stuns the dolphin (Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin) performed; you get to see them jumping the hula hoop elegantly, dashing out of the water speedily, touching the ball in great height and dancing gracefully on the water. We managed to get up close and personal with the dolphin, stroking and caressing them, the children snapped a few picture with these intelligent mammals and finally my kids were rewarded with kisses from the pink dolphin. The whole episode was like catching up with the world famous celebrities, the only lacking is their autograph…

It a wonderful moment to treasure and my kids really love it. Palawan beach is a family beach which the kids will enjoy going…

Romantic Tanjong Beach…

Sentosa Tanjong Beach
Romantic Tanjong Beach
The third Sentosa beach is the Tanjong Beach. When I was there, I saw a few dogs running and some lying down just beside the owners. The beach is relatively secluded, quiet and calm. The beach emits a certain feeling of tranquility and peace. Very laid back and slow. I didn’t really spend much time there with my children. But if I am ever to date my wife again, I know where to bring her. Why? The easterly Sentosa beach is much quieter and I was even lucky to catch a sight of the magnificent sunset while waiting for my wife to feed my children some food. The activities are much tone down here and less developed.

Perhaps it is done on purpose. This part of the Sentosa beach is free from the laughter and bustling of the beach goers… A quiet stroll along the coast with someone special will certainly put you in a mood to make more babies (But please does it in the right place, there are park rangers around). Diehards’ romantic will be hard to give this beach a miss.

Unforgettable Music Show Display by the Sea…

Songs of the Sea
Spectacular Laser Display
by the sea
My day ended with the show Song of the Sea. Situated around the Sentosa beach, the show is a wonderfully crafted pyrotechnics display, spectacularly enhanced music show that is permanently set in the sea. The production is a $30million investment by Sentosa Island to attract more visitors to the island.

My wife especially enjoy the dramatic effects, seated in an open air gallery comfortably after a long day, she had a majestic view of the performance. The bright laser, jet of water shooting from the seas(my children must have wished they have such powerful water gun with them), fires bursting, accompanied by the beautifully synchronized music and what with the live cast (Oscar and his friends) make the evening really enjoyable and unforgettable.

That laser display looks really freaky (in a good way.) Thanks for your informative posts. I always thought of Singapore of being a bit clinical, but you have made it sound much more personable and interesting that I had originally thought.
